A lot of people say they dont want to buy gear because they cant afford it, others say they dont know what to buy. This will be a short guide of what to buy.
#1 Helments
This is the most important thing in riding a motorcycle. You don't even need to explain how important this is for safety, and so many people still don't wear it. You need to if you don't want to die in a crash because it drastically reduces the chance of head trauma and death. Good helmets cost around the 300-500 dollar range with good comfort and protections. You can find a few for 150-250 dollars with good protection but you will sacrifice a lot of comfort.
#2 Jacket and Pants
Bassically when you ride you want to look something like this. Yes it is not the most comfortable around the town, but it is the best protection. For casual riding look for a 2 piece suit, or buy a jacket and pants that fit you and have a good protection rating. Leather is the best for sliding on the road and will last you the longest. For something lighter you can buy synthetic jackets and pants, but they will not last long during a slide (one slide and they are done, leather can take multiple slides).
#3 gloves and riding boots/shoes
These are the most overlooked parts of gear, but the most cheap (around 60-100 dollars). I recommend always having gloves, most of them are leather and have perforated models for hot days. Our first instinct when we fall is to put our hands in front of us and going 60 mph on asphalt is not fun. Boots are not the most required, if you want to stay alive, but you might end up with a twisted leg and ankle. Also during a crash you can have the motorcycle land on your foot, and a good boot wont let your foot burn, and the hard outside will not let the bike crush your foot. Full size boot will run you around 150-450 dollar range with smaller boots coming around 100-200 dollar range.
Pick your gear wisley, for 1000 dollars you can get pretty good gear, that will be good for a long time. Try to get better gear if your wallet lets you, because this is the only thing protecting you from becoming a human roadkill. RevZilla has a lot of experts and videos talking about best gear for each individual, and they sell the gear on their website
